It’s like living together…but with more paperwork

Hubster is completely baffled when he gets asked about being a newlywed.

We both feel about the same as we did prior to the wedding.  In fact, every once in a while, I’ll look at him and feel shock.  “You’re my husband,” I’ll say.  “I’m someone’s wife.”  It still feels somewhat surreal.

“How long do you have to be married before you’re no longer a newlywed?” he asks.  Someone told him six months.  I told him we’re newlyweds as long as we’re in that lovey-dovey-can’t-get-enough-of-each-other phase.  He laughed at me.

Honestly, what changes when you’re married?  Well, there’s certainly a lot of paperwork.  Bank accounts.  Name changes.  Insurance.  Mortgages.  So, yeah, being married is like living together…but with more paperwork.

But there’s a certain comfort level that comes with being married.  Settling into life, schedules.  I still have a hard time thinking that he’s it, for life.  I don’t mean that like it usually sounds – it’s not that I can’t stand the thought of him being it.  I mean, I can’t even imagine life in twenty years, let alone life with him.  It’s all very…surreal.  There’s that word again.

Surreal, but oh so very wonderful.
