Thoughts:

  • I’ve been trying out a low-carb diet for about a month now. Low carb, not no carb, which means all I’ve really done is cut out the bread, pasta, and potatoes, and not worry so much about the rest. Here’s what I’ve noticed so far:  (1) I have no, repeat NO, cravings. At all. Not for sweets. Not for bread. Nothing. I have always wanted a small sweet after a meal. Not anymore.  (2) I have far more willpower than I thought I would have, probably because I don’t have the cravings. A piece of bread is served with just about everything here in Finland, and I just ignore it. I might notice that it looks like really good bread, but I don’t actually try to find out. I don’t normally have much willpower, so this has been an interesting change…  (3) Without the bread and starch, I’m much more of a lightweight. Two glasses of wine and I’m a little buzzed. Nothing to soak up all that alcohol, I guess.  (4) The one thing I really do miss:  Beer.
  • We had a lovely visit/vacation with Stephen’s parents over the last two weeks, and spent some time both in Stockholm and Helsinki. I’ll be posting about the trip within the next few days.

What’s Making Me Happy:

  • We have a dryer! An American couple recently moved back stateside, and we inherited their dryer. I’m excited about it for two reasons.  (1) When getting ready to go on vacation, we don’t need to think ahead 2-3 days to make sure everything is washed and has enough time to dry.  (2) Hopefully, no more crispy towels and tees. Seems that the 100% cotton items get really crunchy with line drying, and I really hate that feeling. I still plan on line drying most of our things, but the towels and tees – into the dryer they go!!

What’s making you happy this week?
