*Not* near New Zealand
A few facts about Finland:
- Finland is located in Scandinavia, to the east of Sweden and to the west of Russia. Estonia is just a ferry ride to the south. (Finland is nowhere near New Zealand – in fact, it’s darn near the complete opposite side of the world. But someone did ask me that.)
- Rosetta Stone does not carry Finnish lessons.
- Finland is regularly recognized as being one of the best countries to live in, with a great quality of life and an exemplary education system.
- Finland has a population of 5.4 million people. There are less people in the whole country than the Dallas/Ft Worth Metroplex (where both Hubster and I are from).
- There are 187,888 lakes in Finland.
- Finns are apparently not big on small talk.
- The sauna is a big deal in Finland. A big deal. Almost every home has a sauna – there are about 2 million saunas in Finland (remember the population?)
- The northern half of the country, Lapland, is located within the Arctic Circle. There are reindeer in Lapland! And Santa’s Village!
